It's time to reveal the Mae 2026 Mystery Coffee!
We hope you enjoyed this month's mystery from Alex at Mae!
Hmm... taste so... familiar
🇵🇪 Namballe, Peru
About the coffee
From Alex at Mae Coffee Roasters:
While thinking of a coffee to provide for the MCL, I wanted to provide a coffee that would surely stump most of you. Since I am aware that many of you most likely get to taste some very exceptional coffees, I thought this Peru was a great example of what a classic, simple and potentially overlooked core coffee can be.
The point of this coffee, as well as many of our core coffees (those in the green boxes with some exceptions) is to support small hold farmers and community lots that we are excited to partner with as well as provide a clean, basic and simplicity side of speciality coffee to those who maybe are new to these styles of coffee.
The producers of the Namballe District of Peru are very much a great example of who we are looking to work with. These producers are involved and work directly within the Tabaconas Namballe Nation Sanctuary, which is a protected buffer zone in Peru’s Rare, mist covered paramo ecosystem. Producers participate in environmental stewardship and continue to become more and more innovative in their producing methods to ensure their environmental impact is reduced.
Along with this, we look for coffees that are clean, beautiful and versatile, yet not muddy or boring. Our goal is to find a coffee that is going to get my grandparents (big commodity coffee folks!) to enjoy while also satisfying the aficionado. This is a hard balance to chase, yet this is always our intention. Thank you to the MCL crew and all of you for your patience with us and for considering us for this project. Hope you enjoyed this coffee and cannot wait to hear your thoughts further on this offering.
